PAGMETER 1ST RD FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS & PLAYOFF BRACKETS 2023 - The Pag Meter (2)

PAGMETER NOTES ON THE 2023 PLAYOFFS
As most of you probably know, the Central Section playoff system is broken and has been broken since it started. Yes the PAGMETER is the only one sticking up for the small schools. It needs to be fixed. It’s that simple.
You can’t blame the CIF on this because the AD’s/Committee voted for it. Put it this way, whoever voted yes on this playoff format you should be voted off the island because your YES vote is hurting kids.
What you can blame the CIF on is they really don’t know Central Section football and they could have put in some common sense. Maybe ask some of the experts that study this weekly..Hmmm.
The CIF have used common sense before with other sports so it is possible but not this year for football. The CIF went straight to the computer and they blew it.
I hate to break the news to everybody but the computer has plenty of flaws.
This year the system went downhill when Memorial, Edison Buchanan and Bullard all had down years, and so what happened, every other division paid the price. It’s called the trickle down or trickle up method.
With open spots in D2, D3 teams like Madera, San Luis Obispo, Lompoc and Garza all got screwed and had to move into D2. Madera is having the best year in 30 years and instead of having a chance at a possible D3 Championship, their big reward, they get to play in D2 where their season will end soon.

Let’s look at the teams that went undefeated;
*Clovis North Broncos are based in D1, went 10-0 and they are playing where they belong.
The computer doesn’t concern the Broncos.

*The Tehachapi Warriors are based in D3, went 10-0, strength of school is middle of the road D3 and for the overachieving Warriors they were rewarded with a 9 seed in D2. Wait…What!!
That means they don’t get a home playoff game and instead of having common sense and putting them in D3, their season will come to an end soon because some big school AD’s decided to poop on the small schools again. Last year the Warriors got bounced in the D2 playoffs after going 9-1 and it will happen again. A small overachieving school that really should be in D3 and because the Warriors run a tremendous football program, they get to play in D2.
I would love to hear Warriors Head Coach Kris Krempiem tell his team….”Hey guys you did everything we asked of you, working hard since January, double-days, early morning weight room, busted your ass and went 10-0 and for all that, you don’t get a home game and play in front of our great fans”. ‘Hey Coach…Why?” “Because some adults simply don’t care about the small school”.
“See players what we should have done is gone 6-4 underacheive and that would have gotten us to play where we belong and that is D3 ”.

Sorry but that’s bullsh*t and the CIF should have stepped in and made it right.

*The Shafter Generals are based in D5, went 10-0 and this playoff format is really good for the Generals because they could be a D4 based team and would be favored in D3. Shafter is in it to win it because they can only play in D4.

*Atascadero Greyhounds are based in D4, went 10-0 and should have been the No 1 seed in D3. The Greyhounds won’t complain because D3 is better for them over D4.

Who likes this playoff format or who doesn’t;
*If you are a Division 1 team, and you are in it to win it, this playoff format doesn’t concern you. You are in the big boy division and playing good football against the best.

*If you’re a struggling Division 1 team, you love it because if you win 3 games you get to go into Division 2 and bully some D2/D3 teams.

*If you are a good D2 team and having a good year, guess what, you will get screwed and play against much larger schools in D1. Your dream season will come to an end very soon because you have zero chance in D1 and against the BIG D1 schools. I’m sorry to burst your bubble.

*If you are in D2 and having a so-so year you will need to lose some games strategically to get into D3 or the D1 teams will come in and kick ass. Sorry to say that but this is what this format makes you do.

*If you are having a good year and play in D3 like Tehachapi and Kingsburg, you will be moved up. Kingsburg is based in D3 and should play in D2. If the Vikings ever get based in D2 then the terrorists win.

Same goes for all the divisions with teams moving up and/or down and it’s so wrong.
If we are going to have this silly unfair playoff format, for the love of god can we have a division 7 for just the REAL SMALL schools????
I’m a big Arvin and Taft fan but with those teams getting to play in D6, the real small schools like Avenal and Minarets have ZERO chances.

Make a D7 for the real small schools and we shouldn’t care if there are only let’s say 6 teams that qualify, it should then be a 6 team bracket because you will never EVER see a small school team win a championship again in 100 years. The real small schools have to play in the leagues over their head and guess what, their overall record will not be good.
The Central Section keeps growing with more schools and the small schools are being left out or they have to move up and play the bigger schools. It’s time for a small league but that’s for another time.

Why is the PAGMETER the only one bringing this sh*t up??

Firebaugh was looking at a No 2 seed in D6 but they blew it and beat Mendota in week 11 and for that they now get a No 14 seed in D5 where they have zero chance. You win in week 11 but you actually lose in the long run. GREAT SYSTEM!
Tell me how that made sense? You practice all week long but deep inside you know if you win the Battle for 33 you actually lose. GREAT SYSTEM!

For starters,
TEAMS SHOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO MOVE UP A DIVISION IF ASKED BUT NEVER MOVE DOWN!!!!!!! IT WILL BE TOUGH FOR A SMALL SCHOOL TEAM TO EVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN IF TEAMS CAN MOVE DOWN.

The San Joaquin Section is not perfect but it’s 100% better than the Central Section.

In the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, you must win at least 4 games, and they eliminated the play-up rule. In prior years, teams could jump a division if they won a higher-level league. Now, each team knows its designated division in advance, eliminating the suspense for bubble teams or having teams lose on purpose at the right time to move down.

In the SJS revamped setup, 84 teams will qualify for the playoffs. Divisions 1-6 will feature 12-team brackets, while D7A will host 8 teams and D7B will see 4 in contention, 7A and 7B will play for a NorCal berth.
The SJC has 7 divisions
!

If the PAGMETER was in charge for the Central Section playoffs in 2023.
Division 1 would have only had an 8 team bracket.
Every year is different and some years it could be 8 teams, 10 teams, or 12 teams bracket depending on who qualifies from D1 and with Buchanan, Memorial, Edison and Bullard all having down years, you can’t penalize everybody else. I don’t understand how people don’t get that!
With only 8 teams in D1, that means, Hanford, AG, St Joes, and Garces would move into D2 where they belong. WOW D2 would be so much fun to watch!
Sorry Hanford, AG, St Joes and Garces but you have zero chance in D1 to win it all against the big schools.
With 8 teams in D1, that means, Madera, SLO, Tehachapi, Lompoc and Garza moved to D3 where they belong.
Are you starting to get the idea…PAGMETER brings in common sense to the playoff system.

BOTTOM LINE
Do you know what EQUITY means when you hear it with High School sports?
It means if you are a large school and you’re having a down year for whatever reason, don’t worry because we got you covered, we will put you in with small overachieving schools that are having good years so you can ruin their year. When you hear the word EQUITY, somebody will be getting screwed!

Someday I pray for all the playoff decisions we have a football only committee that sits down and figures out where teams should land.
It should be committee-common sense-head to head-strength of schedule-and computer. Whatever the committee comes up with, it is then given to the CIF and they announce the teams and the playoffs. The CIF has way too much on their plate to figure out every individual sports playoffs. Let a committee for every sport figure out what that sport needs.

FUSD vs TEACHERS UNION
It looks like they have agreed on a contract so no strike. That’s great news! Hopefully now FUSD will spend some of that FUSD big time free tax money on much needed on-campus stadiums. You’re right, probably not and look for a ton more hiring of do nothing administrators.

FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS

The Weather will be perfect and finally football weather!
Every year there is a big upset in the first round. What division will it happen in?
The Postseason tournament/playoffs are sometimes tough to predict because plenty of these teams have not seen each other and know nothing about the team they are playing. Teams are watching plenty of videos but that doesn’t tell the full story about a team. Most coaches are doing everything they can to find out about their opponent.

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE TEAMS AND TO ALL THE SENIORS PLAYING POSSIBLY IN THEIR LAST HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME, ENJOY THE TIME AND TAKE PLENTY OF PHOTOS! MEMORIES!

In week 11 the PAGMETER went 48-8 and for the year 515-85 (86%)

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL PLAYOFF FINAL SCORE

No 14 INDEPENDENCE FALCONS (4-7) vs No 3 MISSION OAK HAWKS (6-5)
The Falcons and Tribe get to start the 2023 playoffs with the only game on Thursday night.
The Falcons will want to pound the football with a very good O-line and with junior QB Diego Hernandez along with senior RB Richard Gooden running with the football. The Falcons are not a throwing team but they can when needed.
The Hawks can definitely throw the football with senior QB Danny Gonzalez who has thrown for 2,215 yards with 26 TD passes and Danny has now thrown for 5,072 career yards and 54 TD passes. The Hawks will get the ball anyway they can to outstanding senior athlete Kenny Jackson.
The PAG factor, can the Falcons defense slow down the speedy Tribe offense? The Falcons defense has to do what they can to not give up the big play. The Hawks have struggled slowing down the run.
Can the Falcons pound the ball with a physical offensive line? That’s big because if the Falcons can run it, that means they will keep the Hawks offense watching plenty from the sidelines.
Last year the Falcons beat a young Hawks team 27-24 in the playoffs.
Winner plays No 11 Nipomo Titans or No 6 Mt Whitney Pioneers.
PAGMETER PREDICTION HAWKS 33 FALCONS 27 (FINAL HAWKS 38 FALCONS 31)

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS PLAYOFFS FINALS

DIVISION 1 FIRST ROUND

No 9 HANFORD BULLPUPS (9-2) vs No 8 CLOVIS WEST GOLDEN EAGLES (6-5)
This will be a 7 vs 7 game in full gear at its finest.
These teams have the most exciting and explosive offenses in the Central Section.
This game should have been played at Hanford but the town of Hanford won’t mind coming to Buchanan.
For the Bullpups, they really belong in D2 and everybody knows it. With Hanford playing in D1, it will cost them a chance at a state championship. Here’s a team with low numbers, is one of the best teams in school history and just wait until next year.
The Golden Eagles are loaded with one of the best senior classes in school history and the Bullpups are loaded with an outstanding junior class. CW will be way down next year and the Bullpups might go 10-0.
Leading the Bullpups will be juniors, RB Kourdey Glass RB (SJSU, FS, Colorado State), QB Daniel Gomez (Toledo) who is one of the best young QBs in the state, RB/S Albert Richardson, WR JC Turner and senior WR/DB Jordan Black.
Leading the Golden Eagles will be the best Wide Receiving group in the state with senior Landon Wright who is the best WR in the Central Section (Washington State) along with seniors WR/DB Marshel Sanders (Fresno State),WR/DB Jordan Pierro (Fresno State), and Jonavon Darrington (Fresno State). One of the best hard nosed players on both sides of the ball that gets after it is senior LB Tytus Khajavi (Fresno State). Senior QB Tyler Patrick who will play baseball at Fresno State is now the all-time career passer in Clovis West history and very close to being the single season leading passer in school history. TP has done all that and what is crazy, TP still has to look over his shoulder on when Daddy ball will happen. Quarterbacking is tough enough but when you can’t focus on the field with what’s happening off the field, it turns abusive. This has to be one of craziest and strangest stories in valley history. Daddy ball has absolutely killed the morale of this team and the Golden Eagles went from a big Championship contender to, do they lose this week or next week.
These teams are so much alike with speed everywhere, can score on any play, thin numbers and the big difference is the Bullpups can run the football with Glass. CW has a zero running game so the Bullpups can pin their ears back and go after TP.
The PAG factor is Clovis West should easily win this game but you never know when CW will take on CW, and the Bullpups will come in with an attitude after being disrespected with a No 9 seed. The Bullpups have some dudes and are physical. Hanford’s only loss was to a very physical Frontier Titans team and Clovis West without a running game is not a physical team and will throw over the top. Which defense will make the big stops and force turnovers? This should be a very good and entertaining game.
Winner plays the No 1 Clovis North Broncos at Buchanan
PAGMETER PREDICTION BULLPUPS 47 GOLDEN EAGLES 45 (FINAL GOLDEN EAGLES 42 BULLPUPS 30)

No 12 GARCES RAMS (5-6) at No 5 SANGER APACHES (10-1)
The Rams come in red hot winning 3 straight after starting the year 0-3. Leading the Rams is sophom*ore QB Gunter Golla who is getting better and better with every game he plays in.
Leading the way for the Apaches is a big and physical O-line and senior RB Israel Robles who has rushed for 1,428 yards, and has scored 20 TD’s.
The big PAG factor, can the Rams match up with the very fast and physical Apaches? The Rams offense needs a big night. For the Rams to win it needs to be close late in the 4th quarter. The Apaches love to wear you down because they are a tremendous 2nd half team.
Winner plays the No 4 Clovis East T Wolves at Lamonica
PAGMETER PREDICTION APACHES 34 RAMS 23 (FINAL SANGER 35 RAMS 0)

No 11 ST JOSEPH KNIGHTS (8-3) at No 6 CLOVIS COUGARS (8-3)
The Knights come with one of their best defensive teams in school history and plenty of firepower on both sides of the ball. One of the best running backs in the Central Section is senior Carter Vargas, who has verbally committed to play at Nevada. One of the best WRs in the Section is Collin Fasse.
Leading the Cougars is one of the best young QBs in the USA with sophom*ore 6 ‘3 Deagan Rose who has thrown for 2,264 yards with 19 TD passes and has scored 12 TDs, Rose’s favorite target is senior Jake Saldate who has caught 34 footballs.
The PAG factor, can the Knights QB Nick Matautia, have a big night at Lamonica Stadium?
The Knights will come into Lamonica Stadium fired up with playing in one of the best stadiums in the state. The Knight players have all heard about Lamonica and will be so excited when they get off the bus and see it. There is nothing like playing at Daryle Lamoncia Stadium.
Can the Knights slow down Rose and the powerful Cougars offense?
Can the Knights control the line of scrimmage with Vargas running the football? The Cougars have one of best D-lines in the Section. If the Cougars get in the red zone, the Cougs are tough to slow down with Rose running and throwing the football.
Winner plays at No 3 Liberty Patriots
PAGMETER PREDICTION COUGARS 35 KNIGHTS 28 (FINAL COUGARS 42 KNIGHTS 7)

No 10 ARROYO GRANDE EAGLES (9-2) at No 7 CENTRAL GRIZZLIES (8-3)
This is one of the most interesting games of the night.
The Eagles have won 8 straight games and the only loss was against Clovis East 35-7 in week 2. The Eagles are a completely different team since week 2. The Eagles are very thin with players and plenty go both ways. Leading the Eagles are senior running backs Junior Herlihy and Ben Walz.
The Grizzlies also are a completely different team since senior QB David Marquez took over. Marquez does a great job at running the offense and also can run.
The PAG factors, can the Eagles defense stay with the speedy Grizzlies? The Grizzlies WRs seniors Braylen Hall & Noey Felix and junior Daylon Scott are fast and tough to slow down.
Can Eagles senior QB Drake Missamore have a big night? For the Eagles to have a great bus ride home, they have to win the line of scrimmage battle and keep the Grizzlies offense on the sidelines watching and must force turnovers. The Grizzlies will win if they don’t turn the ball over.
Winner plays at No 2 Frontier Titans
PAGMETER PREDICTION GRIZZLIES 39 EAGLES 26 (FINAL GRIZZLIES 42 EAGLES 14)

DIVISION 2

No 16 STOCKDALE MUSTANGS (4-7) at No 1 CVC CAVALIERS (10-1)
Because there were four D1 teams that had down years, the Mustangs were the odd man out and got the ugly No 16 death sentence seed.
The Cavaliers come in smoking hot and the favorites to win the D2 Championship. Leading the Caves is senior RB Bryson Donelson, who rushed for 1,660 yards and has scored 28 TDs. One of the best QBs in the Central Section is Brent Kroeze. Brent has thrown for 1,705 yards and 21 TD passes. Brent is the perfect QB for this offense because all 22 eyes on defense are focusing on Donelson and to have a very accurate passer is huge. Brent’s favorite target is junior WR Gunner Piepgrass.
The PAG factor, this is not a good matchup for the Mustangs.
Winner plays No 9 Tehachapi Warriors or No 8 Bakersfield Drillers
PAGMETER PREDICTION CAVALIERS 44 MUSTANGS 14 (FINAL CAVALIERS 43 MUSTANGS 7)

No 9 TEHACHAPI WARRIORS (11-0) at No 8 BAKERSFIELD DRILLERS (6-5)
Yes you are seeing this correctly, the Warriors are 10-0 and have to travel. This is when you know you have the worst playoff format for small schools in the country.
The Warriors come in off a bye week and have one of the best senior classes in school history. The Warriors are the SYML champions and the 32nd league title team in school history. Leading the offense are seniors RBs AJ Anderson, Karson Tiewater, Mike Jones and QB Jacob Root. Leading the Warriors Defensive will be senior DL Adrian Navarro, sophom*ore LB Tylere Lombardi, junior LB Liddon Scott, freshman DB Cayden King, sophom*ore LB Mason Rothermel, LB Jones who has a 100 tackles, junior LB Ruben Sedano, senior DE Levi Hart, senior DL Gabe Fowlkes, and senior DL Tanner Gary.
The PAG factor is an easy one, can the Warriors slow one of the best junior RBs in the state Brison Abbott who has rushed for 2,078 yards per game (10.7 yards per carry) and has scored 23 TDs.
The Drillers are not fancy, and it’s Abbott until you stop him. If the Warriors can, they win, if not the Drillers will be playing at CVC next week.
Winner plays No 16 Stockdale Mustangs or No 8 CVC Cavaliers
PAGMETER PREDICTION WARRIORS 33 DRILLERS 30 (FINAL WARRIORS 35 DRILLERS 14)

No 12 DINUBA EMPERORS (5-6) at No 5 KINGSBURG VIKINGS (9-2)
The Emperors might be the streakest team in the Central Section. If the Emperors bring their A game watchout. The Emperors will lead with senior RB Diego Tuttle who has rushed for 1,208 yards and has scored 9 TDs.
The Vikings are tough to run against. Leading the Vikings offense will be seniors with QB Max Warkentin and LB/RB Dennis Gagnon. Max’s favorite WR is senior Wyatt Boyd. Leading the very good Vikling’s defense will be seniors DB Houston Hirschkorn and LB Bodhi Verners.
The PAG factor, the Emperors have to be able to run the ball to stay in this game. The Vikings seniors are not ready to turn the equipment in just yet.
Winner plays No 13 San Luis Obispo Tigers or No 4 Tulare Union Tribe
PAGMETER PREDICTION VIKINGS 34 EMPERORS 13 (FINAL VIKINGS 42 EMPERORS 8)

No 13 SAN LUIS OBISPO TIGERS (7-3) at TULARE UNION TRIBE (6-4)
The Tigers come in off a bye and really should be playing in D3 but with Buchanan, Bullard, Edison and Memorial all having down years, the Tigers have to pay the price and move up which makes zero sense. This is a very good Tigers team and they have plenty of outstanding juniors with QB Jace Gomes who is dangerous running and throwing the football. RB Isaiah Hernandez has rushed for 1,215 yards.
The Tribe have plenty of speed on offense and leading the way is sophom*ore QB Jordan Crisp who has thrown for 3,263 yards and 32 TDs.
The PAG factor and it comes down to the defensive side of the ball.
Winner plays No 12 Dinuba Emperors or No 5 Kingsburg Vikings
PAGMETER PREDICTION TRIBE 33 TIGERS 30 (FINAL TRIBE 42 TIGERS 14)

No 14 LOMPOC BRAVES (5-6) at No 3 CENTENNIAL GOLDEN HAWKS (6-5)
The Braves come in banged up and the Hawks have lost 3 straight but the 3 losses were against some powerhouses. The Braves should be playing in D3 and the Hawks can play with anybody in D2.
The PAG factor, can the Braves offense score enough against a very good Hawks defense?
Winner Plays No 11 Madera Coyotes or No 6 Bakersfield Christian Eagles
PAGMETER PREDICTION GOLDEN HAWKS 35 BRAVES 7 (FINAL GOLDEN HAWKS 42 BRAVES 19)

No 11 MADERA COYOTES (7-4) at No 6 BAKERSFIELD CHRISTIAN EAGLES (6-5)
This has the makings to be a very good game with two exciting offenses.
Can the Coyotes junior QB Joel Arellano go on the road and have a big game against a good defense? Every time the Pagmeter picks against the Coyotes they win.
Winner plays No 14 Lompoc Braves or No 3 Centennial Golden Hawks
PAGMETER PREDICTION EAGLES 32 COYOTES 30 (FINAL COYOTES 27 EAGLES 26)

No 10 REDWOOD RANGERS (6-5) at No 7 SUNNYSIDE WILDCATS (10-1)
The Rangers lost to MW in the Rawhide game and have to forget about that game and get back to work. It’s not easy to do in such a big rivalry.
The Wildcats have steam rolled through the season like it was 6th grade recess.
The Rangers come in very disciplined and they will play the most undisciplined team in the Central Section with tremendous talent. Can you imagine if the Wildcats ever got coached up how good they would really be! It would be scary. It’s a catch 22 for the Wildcats. The NYL is way too easy and they would get crushed playing in the CMAC.
It doesn’t matter what the score is, the Wildcats will onside kick and go for 2-points so the Rangers must be ready for anything.
The PAG factor, can the Rangers pound the ball right at the Wildcats and can the Rangers slow down the Wildcats offense? Can the Rangers forget about the Cowhide loss to Mt Whitney? Losing the Rawide game, sometimes you never get over it. Just ask the players who played in the game 10 plus years ago. Some still need therapy. LOL
Winner plays No 15 Garza Guardians or No 2 Lemoore Tigers
PAGMETER PREDICTION RANGERS 39 WILDCATS 35 (FINAL WILDCATS 39 RANGERS 21)

No 15 GARZA GUARDIANS (5-6) at No 2 LEMOORE TIGERS (8-3)
The Guardians have been so up and down all year long. The Guardians could be 9-1 and have a possible No 2 seed in the playoffs instead of a 15 seed.
The Tigers got down 27-0 in the Milk Can and never recovered in the loss to Hanford.
The Guardians have the edge on offense and the Tigers have the big edge on defense.
The PAG factor, the Guardians must force turnovers to pull the upset.
Winner plays No 10 Redwood Rangers or No 7 Sunnyside Wildcats
PAGMETER PREDICTION TIGERS 30 GUARDIANS 20 (FINAL TIGERS 38 GUARDIANS 27)

DIVISION 3

No 9 PIONEER VALLEY PANTHERS (5-6) at No 8 PORTERVILLE PANTHERS (7-4)
PANTHER BOWL

PV should be playing in D4 and will need the defense to step up in front of a big Porterville loud crowd.
The PAG factor, which offense can play better.
Porterville started the year at 4-0, then lost 4 in a row and now have won 2 straight.
Leading PV is senior RB Allan Jimenez who has rushed for 1,052 yards and leading Porterville is senior QB Rocky Arguijo who has thrown for 1,566 yards.
These teams are so similar, they both play good defense and are streaky on offense.
The PAG factor, which offense can finish drives with points.
Winner plays No 1 Mission Prep Royals at Cal Poly
PAGMETER PREDICTION PORTERVILLE 26 PIONEER VALLEY 17 (FINAL PORTERVILLE 41 PIONEER VALLEY 3)

No 12 GOLDEN WEST TRAILBLAZERS (3-8) at No 5 KERMAN LIONS (6-5)
Everytime I think the Blazers are ready for a winning streak, they lose. The good news for the Blazers is they get a mulligan,do over. Their record right now is 0-0 and they have plenty of talent. Leading the Blazers is senior QB Raymon Velazquez who has thrown for 1,966 yards.
The Lions have played a tough schedule and come in playing their best football the last 3 weeks and leading the way is junior RB Julien Velez who has rushed for 700 yards. The Lions O-line is getting after it.
The PAG factor, for the Blazers to win on the road they have to avoid turnovers. Turnovers have killed the Blazers this year. Can the Blazers slow down the Lions running game? The Lions defense is playing at a high level.
Winner plays No 13 Santa Ynez Pirates or No 4 Kennedy Thunderbirds
PAGMETER PREDICTION LIONS 27 BLAZERS 21 (FINAL LIONS 30 BLAZERS 29)

No 13 SANTA YNEZ PIRATES (4-7) at No 4 KENNEDY THUNDERBIRDS (9-2)
The Pirates have played a tough Central Coast schedule and really should be in D4. Most of the year the Pirates were hanging around D5 and now end up in D3. Nice playoff system!
Leading the Pirates are sophom*ore QB Jude Pritchard, senior WR Daulton Beard and senior RB Dallas DeForest. Plenty of Pirates play both ways and they come off a big win over Lompoc.
The Thunderbirds are playing outstanding football on both sides of the ball.
The PAG factor, can the Pirates slow down super sophom*ore RB Jace Demacabalin who is back after going out of the Shafter game because of dehydration. A week after going down, Jace rushed for 147 yards and scored 4 TDs in the win over Chavez.
Winner plays No 12 Golden West Trailblazers or No 5 Kerman Lions
PAGMETER PREDICTION BIRDS 44 PIRATES 17 (FINAL BIRDS 42 PIRATES 21)

No 11 NIPOMO TITANS (4-7) vs No 6 MT WHITNEY PIONEERS (8-3)
The Titans come in losing a tough one to Righetti High 24-23. The Titans offense is very good and leading the way is freshman QB Blayne Lowry who had a tremendous year throwing 1,684 yards.
The Pioneers have to be one of the best stories of 2023. The Pioneers are the EYL Champions after knocking off Redwood 20-14 in the 68th Cowhide game. Head Coach Nathan Chamberlain and his staff have done an amazing job with the Pioneers program.
The PAG factor is the Titans offense vs the outstanding Pioneers defense. Will the Pioneers have a Redwood hangover?
Winner plays No 14 Independence Falcons or No 3 Mission Oak Hawks
PAGMETER PREDICTION PIONEERS 34 TITANS 20 (FINAL PIONEERS 28 TITANS 18)

No 10 TEMPLETON EAGLES (5-6) at No 7 WASHINGTON UNION PANTHERS (4-7)
Here is a tremendous match up.
The Eagles power running game vs the physical Panthers defense.
Both teams have played up and down all year and both teams have had some tough losses.
The PAG factor, can the Panthers offense have a good night? For the Eagles to have a fun bus ride home, they must control the line of scrimmage.
Winner plays at No 2 Atascadero Greyhounds
PAGMETER PREDICTION EAGLES 23 PANTHERS 20 (FINAL PANTHERS 25 EAGLES 7)

DIVISION 4

No 9 GOLDEN VALLEY BULLDOGS (9-2) at MCLANE HIGHLANDERS (7-4)
This is going to be one of the best playoff games of the first round.
The Bulldogs come in with a 7 game winning streak and love to run the ball. The Bulldogs offensive line is very good and with plenty of speed and power in the backfield with RBs senior Nate Abbott (LB) who has rushed for 1,328 yards, has scored 21 TDs and never comes off the field, along with junior Dominick Tre Thompson who has rushed for 1,516 yards and has scored 15 TDs.
The Highlanders have won 7 games for the first time since 1995. Leading the Highlanders will be senior RB TJ Mcmillion, junior WR/DB Da’Zier Newhouse, sophom*ore WR/DB – Demetrius Simon, and junior QB/ LB Noah Zamor.
This is a tough call because they have played completely different teams on the schedule. They both did play Sunnyside.GV lost to Sunnyside 36-20 and McLane lost to Sunnyside 43-8.
With that can you decide on who will win? Tough call.
The PAG factor, can the Highlanders defense matchup and slowdown the Bulldogs running attack? If not..game over.
The Bulldogs will line up and will not be fooling anybody because they will be coming right at the Highlanders. The Highlanders offense can’t afford to be punting or turning the ball over because the Bulldogs will be playing keep away all night long.
Winner plays at No 1 Shafter Generals
PAGMETER PREDICTION HIGHLANDERS 30 BULLDOGS 28 (FINAL BULLDOGS 35 HIGHLANDERS 28)

No 12 IMMANUEL EAGLES (5-6) at No 5 TORRES TOROS (8-3)
It’s the big and physical Eagles vs the speedy Toros.
Leading the Eagles will be a huge O-line and junior RB/LB Shane Spomer.
The Toros are a team to watch out for with a dangerous offense with senior LB/RB Joseph (sea) Bass, LB/RB Amani Sua who is a monster to tackle and QB Jose Soriano.
The PAG factor can the Eagles run the ball and slow the game down and keep the Toros offense on the sidelines?
Winner plays No 13 Sierra Pacific Golden Bears or No 4 Coalinga Toads
PAGMETER PREDICTION TOROS 36 EAGLES 23 (FINAL TOROS 43 EAGLES 14)

No 13 SIERRA PACIFIC GOLDEN BEARS (7-4) No 4 at COALINGA HORNED TOADS (9-2)
The Golden Bears come in trying to get the MOJO back from when they started the year at 6-0.
The Toads come in after losing the West Sierra League Championship to Dos Palos 21-20.
Leading the G Bears is junior Landon McKee who has thrown for 2,061 yards and 16 TDs.
Leading the Toads is Junior QB Noah Tasi who has thrown for 2,436 yards and 24 TDs, the WRs with junior Dylan Teixeira who has caught 45 footballs for 886 yards and 12 TDs, and junior Gavin Watson with 48 receptions for 848 yards and 8 TDs.
The PAG factor, the Toads didn’t take care of business last Friday and now must forget about it. The Toad went from the No 2 seed to the No 4 seed with the loss.
Can the Golden Bears’s offense score enough to stay with the speedy Toads?
Winner plays 12 Immanuel Eagles or No 5 Torres Toros
PAGMETER PREDICTION TOADS 31 GOLDEN BEARS 7 (FINAL TOADS 41 GOLDEN BEARS 7)

No 14 HIGHLAND SCOTS (3-8) at No 3 EXETER MONARCHS (10-1)
The Scots get a win on Friday to qualify for the postseason and the Monarchs lose their first game on Friday to Reedley.
The Scots come in banged up and the Monarchs losing on Friday might actually be a good thing with taking some of the pressure off with an undefeated season.
The PAG factor, the Monarchs are tough at home.
Winner plays No 11 Roosevelt Rough Riders or No 6 Chowchilla Tribe
PAGMETER PREDICTION MONARCHS 32 SCOTS 13 (FINAL MONARCHS 38 SCOTS 35)

No 11 ROOSEVELT ROUGH RIDERS (7-4) at CHOWCHILLA TRIBE (8-3)
Wow what a match up of two hot teams.
The Rough Riders have won 4 straight and the Tribe have won 5 straight including winning the Northwest Sequoia league Championship.
Leading the Riders is senior QB Jackson Kloster who has thrown for 2,393 yards, with 26 TDs and has scored 7 TDs. Jackson’s favorite target is senior WR Jeremy Young who has caught 68 footballs for 1,061 yards and has scored 16 TDs. Sophom*ore RB Dimareea Banks has rushed for 902 yards and has scored 8 TDs.
Leading the Tribe is outstanding junior QB Davian Stephenson who is so dangerous running or throwing and junior RB Dwayne Hemphill who has rushed for 783 yards and has scored 7 TDs.
The PAG factor, it’s getting tough again for the visiting team to play in Chowchilla and that is a big advantage for the home team with a loud crowd.
Which defense can step up and make the big stops. The Riders have a big O-line, the Tribe are a very physical team and the Riders better strap it up.
Winner plays No 14 Highland Scots or No 3 Exeter Monarchs
PAGMETER PREDICTION UPSET PICK RIDERS 29 TRIBE 27 (FINAL RIDERS 35 TRIBE 28)

No 10 SANTA MARIA SAINTS (6-5) at No 7 CARUTHERS BLUE RAIDERS (7-4)
The Saints come in playing very good football down the stretch. The Blue Crew are hoping for another hot playoff run just like last year.
Leading the Saints will be senior QB Josue Elena who has thrown for 2,134 yards and 20 TDs. That’s back to back years for throwing for over 2,100 yards. Josh’s favorite WR is senior Malachi Jordan who has caught 56 balls for 744 yards and 8 TDs. RB Aldo Araiza has rushed for 790 yards and has scored 5 TDs. Aldo is good!
Leading the Blue Raiders is senior RB Hunter Babb who by the way is leading the Country in rushing yards with 2,916 yards and is 3rd in the Country with scoring 42 TDs.
There’s over 30,000 schools in the USA and the Huntman has rushed for more yards than anybody and still with no offers. SMH
For his career, Hunter has rushed for 6,206 yards and that is 8th on the Central Section all time record list according to legend Bob Barnett and 100 TDs which is 7th all time.
I’m thinking we all know what the PAG factor is and the Saints defense already knows.
For the Saints to win, the offense needs a big night because you know Babb will get his yards.
Winner plays at No 2 Dos Palos Broncos
PAGMETER PREDICTION BLUE RAIDERS 37 SAINTS 28 (FINAL SAINTS 32 RAIDERS 26)

DIVISION 5

No 9 NORTH STARS (5-6) at No 8 CORCORAN PANTHERS (8-3)
The Stars are playing their best football at the right time and the Panthers have played very consistent football from week 1.
Leading the Stars will be seniors RB Dillon Kyle who has rushed for 1,188 yards and has scored 15 TDs, QB/RB Carson Bennett has rushed for 609 yards and scored 6 TDs.
The Panthers will lead with 4 year running back Enrique Rios who has rushed for close to 1,000 yards.
The PAG factor is we all know the Stars are a much larger school and have played a tougher schedule but nobody gets after it like the Panthers do especially on defense. For the Panthers to win, the team needs to be on the same page with each other and right now the administration and team are not and that is horrible timing. It’s not fair to Panthers seniors.
Can the Stars defense slow down the run.
Winner plays at No 1 Bishop Union Broncos
PAGMETER PREDICTION STARS 26 PANTHERS 20 (FINAL STARS 43 PANTHERS 34)

No 12 HOOVER PATRIOTS (3-8) at No 5 OROSI CARDINALS (10-1)
The Patriots get their 3rd win and qualify for the postseason and the Cardinals are thinking of the D5 Championship.
The PAG factor, can the Patriots stay with one of the best RBs in the Central Section with Andrew Camrillo who is 3 yards away from 2,000 and 26 yards away from 6,000 career yards which will put him in the top 10 all time Central Section in rushing. Andrew has also scored 89 career TDs.
The Patriots offense needs a big night. The Patriots are going to find out what good old fashioned hard-nose small town football is all about.
Winner will play No 13 East Blades or No 4 Morro Bay Pirates
PAGMETER PREDICTION CARDINALS 39 PATRIOTS 20 (FINAL CARDINALS 42 PATRIOTS 26)

No 13 EAST BLADES (3-8) at 4 MORRO BAY PIRATES (6-5)
The Blades won their 3rd game to qualify and playing their best football at the right time heading into the postseason tournament and the Pirates have played a very tough schedule.
The PAG factor, can the Blades defense slow down senior running back Nami Hoag who has rushed for 1,100 yards. Can the Pirates slow down senior RB Lorenzo Patrino who has rushed for 1,114 yards.
Winner play No 12 Hoover Patriots or Orosi Cardinals
PAGMETER PREDICTION PIRATES 33 BLADES 27 (FINAL PIRATES 27 BLADES 26)

No 14 FIREBAUGH EAGLES (5-6) at No 3 LIBERTY HAWKS (8-3)
The Eagles were sitting in prime time shape with a No 2 seed in the D6 bracket but the Eagles beat Mendota on Friday and now they get a No 14 death sentence in D5.
The question for the Eagles, winning the D6 Championship or beating Mendota? It turns out beating Mendota.
The Hawks lost to Chowchilla and the Northwest Sequoia championship with 2 crazy scoops, ran a long way and scored TDs for Chowchilla. If anybody is going to lose in wacky fashion, it has to be the Hawks. Last year in the first round, the Undefeated 10-0 Hawks were 14 seconds away from beating Shafter but the Generals threw a 50 yard bomb and beat the Hawks 14-13. The good news in the loss to Chowchilla last Friday, it put the Hawks in D5 where they belong and can be a dangerous team.
The PAG factor, can the Eagles Junior QB Issac Ceja have a big night? The Eagles have improved a ton since week 1.
Can the Eagles slow down the Hawks running attack and leading the way are 2 outstanding senior RBs with Caleb Sisco and Brody Harlow.
Winner plays No 11 Sanger West Hornets or Chavez Titans
PAGMETER PREDICTION HAWKS 34 EAGLES 19 (FINAL HAWKS 14 EAGLES 12)

No 11 SANGER WEST HORNETS (3-8) at No 6 CHAVEZ TITANS (6-5)
The Hornets are playing in their first playoff game in school history and the Titans have lost 3 in a row.
The PAG factor, the Titans at home have the big edge.
Winner plays No 14 Firebaugh Eagles or No 3 Liberty Hawks
PAGMETER PREDICTION TITANS 43 HORNETS 19 (FINAL TITANS 56 HORNETS 28)

No 10 REEDLEY PIRATES (4-7) at No 7 DELANO TIGERS (6-5)
The Pirates lost plenty of close games in crazy ways, played a killer schedule and learned the hard way. The Tigers won 4 straight, then lost 4 straight and now have won 2 straight.
The young Pirates are 1000% better from week 1 and could be the sleeper team in D5.
The Pirates have a big and physical line and can pound it or spread it out. Leading the Pirates is senior RB Demetrius Vargas who has rushed for 1,326 yards and has scored 7 TDs. Keep an eye on sophom*ore QB Will Bacon who is getting better with every practice. Will has thrown for 1,000 yards, rushed for 700 yards and has scored 10 TDs.
The Tigers have been banged up for a while. Outstanding junior RB Robert (RG) Garcica is still banged up but will try to see some action.
The PAG factor, who can control the line of scrimmage? This should be a hard hitting game.
Winner plays at No 2 Wasco Tigers
PAGMETER PREDICTION PIRATES 27 TIGERS 24 (FINAL PIRATES 43 TIGERS 36)

DIVISION 6

ORANGE COVE TITANS (6-5) at AVENAL BUCCANEERS (5-6)
The Titans lost a tough game to Orosi 35-34 and the Bucs beat Tranquility 14-13.
The Titans love to spread it out and the Bucs love to pound the ball.
The PAG factor, the Bucs are very lucky. They lost in a forfeit to Mendota in the 3rd quarter fight 2 weeks ago and instead of canceling the season because the Bucs started the fight and plenty jumped in along with Bucs fans jumping the fence. Nobody tried to stop it except for Mendota who did a great job. The Bucs get to play on…why?…I have no idea why. It’s simply bullsh*t. What are we teaching?? The Bucs had 5 players suspended for 3 games but even that changed because it’s now 4 players.
Winner plays at Bishop Union Broncos
PAGMETER PREDICTION TITANS 30 BUCS 13 (FINAL TITANS 46 BUCS 0)

No 12 MINARETS MUSTANGS (6-5) at No 5 WOODLAKE TIGERS (6-4)
The Mustangs have had a tremendous year and win or lose, they should be proud of how they have played.
The Tigers are peaking at the right time especially after knocking off undefeated Orosi a few weeks ago. The Tigers are a big time D6 contender.
Leading the Mustangs is their defensive stud senior DE Paxton Tovsrud who comes in with 16 sacks.
For the Tigers, watch out for senior RB Isaiah Taylor who is a threat to break a run on any carry.
The PAG factor, can the Mustangs have a good offense game vs a very good physical Tigers defense?
Winner plays No 13 Kern Valley Broncs or No 4 Strathmore Spartans
PAGMETER PREDICTION TIGERS 36 MUSTANGS 13 (FINAL TIGERS 28 MUSTANGS 6)

No 13 KERN VALLEY BRONCS (3-8) at No 4 STRATHMORE SPARTANS (7-4)
The Broncs come in playing a very physical Spartans team that can’t wait to get the playoffs going.
Leading the Broncs is senior RB/WR Hunter Watts.
Leading the Spartans is their senior stud Jacob Poole who is close to 3,000 career rushing yards. Jacob is playing not at 100% with a sore shoulder but there is zero chance he’s not going to play down the stretch.
The PAG factor, can the Broncs slow down Poole?
Winner plays No 12 Minarets Mustangs or No 5 Woodlake Tigers
PAGMETER PREDICTION SPARTANS 47 BRONCS 6 (FINAL STRATHMORE 49 BRONCS 14)

No 14 FOOTHILL TROJANS (4-7) at No 3 MENDOTA AZTECS (5-6)
The Trojans and the Aztecs both have been up & down all year long.
This is a rematch from a couple of years ago when the Aztecs beat the Trojans and on their way to the D6 Championship.
Leading the Trojans is senior RB Darrion Rodriguez who has rushed for 1,034 yards and has scored 15 TDs.
Leading the Aztecs is junior RB Jesse Rodriguez who has rushed for 1,037 yards and has scored 10 TDs.
That’s crazy, the Rodriguez boys are 3 rushing yards apart coming in.
The PAG factor, the Aztecs losing to Firebaugh in the battle of 33 was actually a win because it put the Aztecs in D6.
Which defense can slow down the run?
Winner plays No 11 Rosamond Roadrunners or No 6 Taft Wildcats
PAGMETER PREDICTION AZTECS 37 TROJANS 13 (FINAL AZTECS 42 TROJANS 7)

No 11 ROSAMOND ROADRUNNERS (6-5) at No 6 TAFT WILDCATS (5-6)
This is the Roadrunners offense vs the Wildcats defense.
Leading the Roadrunners is junior QB Ty’ Shawn Flowers who has thrown for 2,622 yards, 30 TD passes, rushed for 600 yards and has scored 11 TDs. Sophom*ore RB Robert Evans has rushed for 1,584 yards and has scored 9 TDs. TyShawn’s favorite targets are senior Willie Bird who has caught 48 balls for 794 yards and sophom*ore Cam Gomez with 52 receptions for 878 yards.
Leading the Wildcats is senior dual threat QB Blaine Neudorf.
The PAG factor, can the Roadrunners defense step up against a physical Wildcats offense?
Winner plays No 14 Foothill Trojans or No 3 Mendota Aztecs
PAGMETER PREDICTION WILDCATS 51 ROADRUNNERS 21 (FINAL WILDCATS 71 ROADRUNNERS 34)

No 10 LINDSAY CARDINALS (4-7) at No 7 FOWLER REDCATS (5-6)
This is going to be a very good game with the Redbirds vs the Redcats.
The Cardinals are so close to finally playing their best game of the year and most of the year that they have played with plenty of injuries.
The PAG factor, can the physical Cardinals defense slow down dual threat Redcats QB Bubba Smith? The Redcats have yet to beat a good team this year. This would be a big win.
Winner plays at No 2 Boron Bobcats
PAGMETER PREDICTION REDCATS 34 CARDINALS 30 (FINAL REDCATS 49 CARDINALS 14)

8 MAN FOOTBALL PLAYOFF BRACKET

No 5 FRAZIER MT FALCONS (8-2) at No 4 MAMMOTH HUSKIES (7-3)
The Falcons record looks really good but the schedule is perfect for a young team playing young teams. That ends at Mammoth.
The PAG factor, the Falcons only loss was to Mammoth 60-0 and look for another big win for the Huskies. I’m thinking the Huskies will shut it down early because next week the Huskies will be playing at No 1 Fresno Christian. The Huskies could be very vanilla on offense.
Winner plays at No 1 Fresno Christian Eagles
PAGMETER PREDICTION HUSKIES 52 FALCONS 0 (FINAL HUSKIES 53 FALCONS 0)

No 6 ORCUTT ACADEMY SPARTANS (4-6) at No 3 SIERRA CHIEFTAINS (6-5)
This is a rematch from week 9 when the Chieftains beat the Spartans 44-14.
The PAG factor, next week will be a rematch with Sierra at Riverdale Christian. RC beat Sierra in week 6. The problem is RC and Sierra both want a rematch with Fresno Christian but they have to take care of business first with a meeting next week.
Winner plays at No 2 Riverdale Christian Ambassadors
PAGMETER PREDICTION CHIEFTAINS 48 SPARTANS 14 (FINAL CHIEFTAINS 40 SPARTANS 16)

DIVISION 1

Division 1 Playoff notes,
Pagmeter pretty much agrees with D1 except for Hanford & Clovis West. Yes you will have some that say there wasn’t a tiebreaker to figure it out but common sense should have kicked in.
I get why CW got the home game.
Even though Hanford beat Bullard 71-7 & Lemoore 27-13 and CW beat Bullard 21-20 and Lemoore 27-26, nobody looked at that. I understand that scores shouldn’t mean much but come on.
Clovis West might be the worst traveling fan base in the section and Hanford will have the entire town at Buchanan. Much more $$$$ for the CIF if the game is at Buchanan.
Clovis East gets the No 4 seed because of going 8-2. After that it’s trickling down…
CE beat Sanger, Sanger beat Clovis and Clovis beat Central.

The PAGMETER would have had Atascadero at No1 but it will be cool to have the Championship game at Cal Poly if both teams make it that far. I had Kennedy at No 3 over Mission Oak since Kennedy beat Taft and Mission Oak had to forfeit to Taft.
Pioneer Valley and Nipomo both need to be in D4.
